Pre-Production
Working with the agency zfactor (https://www.zfactor.com/), we discussed and developed the concept of the video. Zfactor created the illustrations, which were then placed on a timeline in After Effects (where the majority of work would be done) to time things out for the voice-over and animation. I received the Adobe Illustrator files to let me take apart each frame to set it up to be animated.
Animation
Animation - the fun part. And really, not a whole lot of images I can put here to illustrate the process. I took each frame and would animate it, looking for a way to transition seamlessly between shots and animate each individual shot. Then came feedback, after which I'd make adjustments and get feedback again.
Audio Design
After getting things pretty darn close to "finished" on the animation side as I could, I brought the video into Adobe Premiere, where I added the music and SFX elements to give it some more depth.
Final Delivery & Launch
The day finally came and we launched the video! You might have noticed things in the video didn't exactly match all the frames zfactor came up with originally in the storyboard. As the video progressed, we made decisions on what did and didn't work. The things that didn't work got eliminated from the video and new elements were added that better told the story of Vexcel in 2022. We ended up going through at least 12 revisions on the video as we got new information and eliminated things that didn't work in the video like we wanted. But I really like the end result! Plus, revisions are just part of the process. I'd be more concerned if there weren't any revisions before the final delivery...
